Why I Haven't Been Reading Much Lately

Attentive readers may have noticed that I haven't posted much about my own reading for quite some time. There is a reason for this. Actually there are five adorable reasons:

The Bookworm Pack

For the last eight weeks these creatures have been my roommates and my responsibility. While their owners are gallavanting across southern Africa, I gallavant through the forest two or three times a day with my new posse. They are a constant source of delight and amusement, but having M.E. (chronic fatigue syndrome) makes walking them a serious challenge. In fact it pretty much flattens me. Once they have been fed and walked and petted and disciplined there isn't much left in the tank for anything else, especially anything requiring sustained attention. However I am glad to report that I will be released from my doggy (and kitty) limbo in a little over a week and should be posting something more substantive soon thereafter. In the mean time, I highly recommend clicking over to an impressive new classic book blog, What Do I Know? The title is a misnomer because J.D. obviously knows a lot, and expresses it very well. Do have a look!

How cute! Do you actually walk them all together (cat included!?) like that!? They must be quite well behaved!

Cute! They do look like a handful though.

Oh, sure, post the cute picture of the dogs. Wouldn't want to give anyone nightmares, would we?

Wow, what a task!!! Take care!

Yes, wil, the cats (there are two) very much enjoy coming along on the walks. They are all very well-behaved... except for when they're not. ;)

Chuck, I assure you they are perfectly harmless. Just don't make any sudden moves... ;)

Indeed they are, Dorothy, but I'm crazy about them.

Thanks, Balkan. :)

What a cute bunch you're in charge of there. It reminds me of another of my million summer vacation plans: spoil my dog. :)

Thanks, too, for the recommendation and the compliment. I hope everyone likes what I'm putting together. As you all know, having an audience, even a small one, is great motivation to keep working hard.

what an impressive posse! And do the cats really stay with the group the whole time? If so, that's even more impressive!

You're right, J.D. Even though many of us say we are blogging primarily for ourselves, having a responsive audience does increase motivation (and enjoyment!) greatly.

Yes, Stefanie, the cats usually follow along for the whole walk, and catch up to get petted whenever I stop. The fact that they don't get along makes it more amazing. The small cat beats up on the large cat regularly, and he puts up with it.

I'm very impressed. Do they ever give chase to rabbits, squirrels, mice?

"Chase" isn't quite the right word. The cats will park themselves somewhere and if anything should have the misfortune to wander too close they will grab it. The dogs will sometimes chase the deer, but other times they just watch them as they devour the garden plants.

Now, I think you need five furries of your own. Cats, preferably.

Wow, what awesome new roommmates!

They all look darling! Can't say I really envy you taking care of all of them at once though. :) Sure it was lots of fun. Try to take it easy.
